Taking the first step

The decision to begin therapy can be a difficult one to make, especially if you’re unsure of how it works. We'd like to give you an idea of what to expect and help guide you through the process.

What we do

(Psycho)therapists provide so-called “talk” therapy to help you work through your concerns and specific challenges using research-based techniques and interventions. Their approach to therapy can differ based on the clinician’s education. Therapists can be licensed psychologists, social workers, or counselors.

Psychologists ≠ psychiatrists. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor that can prescribe or manage medication. Psychologists, however, cannot, and can be at the Master’s or PhD level. Please note: we do not have a psychiatrist on staff. While therapists/psychologists have some limited knowledge of medications, they would refer you to another clinic if some form of medicine is deemed necessary.

First, call 313-561-9064

  • The first step involves placing a call to our office during office hours (9a-5p) to provide your insurance and demographic information.

  • Information we need:

    • Name, date of birth, address

    • Insurance information (member ID number, policy holder’s name/DOB)

    • Availability, needs, and preferences

  • Over the next 2-3 business days, your insurance benefits will be checked and you will receive a call from your assigned therapist to schedule your initial visit and discuss your insurance coverage.

  • *Please be advised that we check benefits as a courtesy to give you an idea of what you would owe per session. You are responsible for any amount that your insurance determines is your responsibility.*

Your treatment

  • You are a vital and active part of the therapy process. We encourage you to ask questions and voice your needs/preferences in order to help your therapist create a personalized and effective treatment plan just for you.

  • Our staff is diverse with distinct therapeutic philosophies/orientations. You can read more about our team on our website under the “therapists” tab.

  • Our goal is to help you feel healthier and more equipped to cope with and enjoy your life.

  • Please note: outpatient therapy does not offer 24/7 care. If you are experiencing an emergency, please go to the nearest Emergency Department, dial 911, or call the 24 hour hotline: 800-241-4949.
